Mary Beth Callahan, ACSW/LCSW, Senior DTI Social Worker, is a licensed social worker with over 25 years of experience in renal care, including chronic kidney disease, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and transplantation (evaluation for transplant as well as intervention afterward). Her professional involvement includes local, regional and national committees. She has also been active on various advisory boards, including the End Stage Renal Disease Network of Texas. Her goals have been to improve patient outcomes and to promote opportunities for rehabilitation for patients at every stage of kidney disease. She has co-developed national training programs for nephrology social workers in association with the National Kidney Foundation Council of Nephrology Social Workers. She is a past national chairperson of the council, and was honored as Recognized Social Worker of the Year by that group. She has advocated legislatively on local and national levels for many years. Mary Beth has been a key investigator in several research projects that have received national attention. Most recently she has initiated a “job club” for transplant recipients who plan to return to the workforce. Mary Beth has authored numerous articles for both professional and public audiences. A well-known speaker, she frequently gives presentations across the country at patient, social work and multidisciplinary symposia.
