physicians have primary commitments to assigned hospitals and are
thus available to serve as consultants for a wide variety of renal
problems. The physicians are involved in the evaluation and
care of patients with disorders affecting kidneys, such as
hypertension, hematuria, proteinuria, electrolyte disorders, kidney
stone formation, and glomerulonephritis. Most all supervise
in-hospital dialysis. In some cases hospital practice also
involves the teaching of internal medicine residents and renal
fellows. Several of the physicians have received awards for
their excellence in teaching.
