    Telemedicine FAQs

    What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a virtual care platform that allows health care professionals and patients to meet by phone or video chat without having to travel to a clinic or leave their home.

What do I need to have in order to have a telemedicine appointment with my doctor?

You will need to provide the following:

    1. A patient must provide consent prior to their telemedicine appointment.

    3. Visit our Telehealth Appointment Guidelines for additional information on equipment needed.

What type of appointments is being done utilizing telemedicine?

We are currently seeing existing patients for routine visits as well as new patients who need to be seen urgently by a nephrologist. Other types of appointments available through telemedicine include nutrition and supportive care consults.

Where does a telemedicine appointment typically occur?

Telemedicine appointments occur in private settings, such as a doctor in a clinic or office connecting to a patient who is at home or at another clinic. Patients should not receive telemedicine services in public or semi-public settings.

Should I still come to my regularly scheduled appointment in the office?

Please check with our office first before coming to your scheduled appointment. Your physician will assess whether it is medically necessary for you to come to our office for a face-to-face appointment. Some patient appointments may be able to schedule a telemedicine appointment or reschedule their regular appointment for a later date.
